Siegfried Berno

Siegfried M. Berno, born in 1992, is a German artist currently residing in Heidelberg and Berlin. His artistic exploration revolves around the intricacies of the mind, the construction of realities, and their interplay with perception and encounters. "In the comforting obscurity, a sound emerges, and the mind begins to take form, observing. Suddenly, light breaks through, and our eyes open. In this moment of inception, we remain oblivious to the elusive answer to 'why.'"

For Siegfried, the mind serves as the foundation for comprehending existence, with its capacity to explore, imagine, and expand. It plays a crucial role in defining, thinking, directing, and functioning. The concepts of "self" and "other" emerge from the ability to interact, observe, and contemplate what is observed. Despite being a conceptual entity, the mind holds the profound truth about one's own reality, essence, and the act of creation.

Siegfried crafts abstract yet organic artworks that act as portals to inner worlds. Employing layering techniques, structures, and materials, he allows his artworks to evolve intuitively, free from predetermined order. These layers take on diverse forms, ranging from bold and explosive gestures to delicate lines reminiscent of the flow of water. By observing the behaviors of different mediums and materials under various conditions like time, heat, or gravity, and by influencing and controlling them, he shapes forms that distort perception. The layers may initially seem chaotic and random, yet they ultimately find a harmonious place, as if their existence is indispensable to the overall composition.
